Dementia in an Aging America
Recent breakthroughs in technology and medicine have made it possible for people to live years longer, sometimes even decades. This benefit is not without a cost. As people live into their seventies, eighties, and even nineties, they become more and more prone to the illnesses associated with age, including Dementia and Alzheimerís Disease.
Need for Care
Cognitive faculties begin to deteriorate with the onset of illnesses like Dementia and Alzheimerís Disease. People who experience this begin to need help with some of the activities of daily living, such as meal preparation, household care, and making and keeping medical appointments. In addition, they often need supervision to help ensure their safety.
Dementia and the Family
Dementia is hard on everyone. It is hard for the person who can't remember things the way they once could, or who suddenly finds themselves somewhere and doesn't know how they got there. It is hard for the family and friends of that person, those who worry that their family member or loved one is going to get hurt.
Family Caregivers
When someone develops dementia or Alzheimerís, often family members step in to care for them or several family members share the responsibility. Unfortunately, this can put a strain on the family and career of the caregiver.
Expert Care
Our trained caregivers can step in and alleviate the stress of caring for a family member.
We require all staff members who work with Alzheimerís or Dementia clients to take specialized training. They learn how to deal with agitated clients, sun downing, wandering, and other issues that arise. We pride ourselves providing continuing education opportunities so that our staff will have the most up-to-date and relevant information on caring for your family member.
Alternative to Facility Care
People with Dementia or Alzheimerís often feel stressed because of their fading memory. They find themselves somewhere unfamiliar or they do not recognize those around them and can become disoriented and fearful. Often a move to the unfamiliar environment of a care facility can be unsettling. Care On Call can help delay the need for facility care and help seniors stay in the comfortable and familiar environment of their home.
